Legends by harmonyangel (PG-13)
Hi, I'm TSB, and I'll be driving the Newsies van this month. I'll start off with a fairly recent fic, but I'll also rec some of the fandom classics later on.
Fandom: NEWSIES
Pairing: Jack/David
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ:

Author Website: Fic on LJ
Why this must be read: This story was written for
lgbtfest, and the prompt pretty much says why I love this story. Jack and David have been together for almost their entire lifetimes. Now that they're in their late 80s/early 90s (the late 1960s/70s), how do they feel about the rise of the public gay rights movement? What changes have they seen over the course of the 20th century?
I love fics that show the evolution of relationships, and that incorporate history. This beautiful and poignant story shows Jack and David dealing with the passing of history, from having to hide their relationship for years to finally being able to be openly together in San Fransisco. It's just a beautiful story, and one that I highly recommend.
They were legends in 1970s San Francisco: a gay couple that had been together since the 19th century. David knew that wasn't technically true; he and Jack had danced around each other, scared and uncertain, until 1901. But Jack liked the poetic sound of it, and would happily repeat the white lie to anyone who asked. He had, after all, always loved improving the truth.
So it wasn’t any surprise when, on that breezy early summer day, a young man turned in his seat on the cable car and said, his voice polite and tentative, “Excuse me, sir, but aren’t you David Jacobs?”
