Why this must be read:

This is a new fic.  Really new.  Like, this week.  But it made such an immediate impression on me that I just had to include it in my recs for this month.

It's now canon (as per Ashes to Ashes) that Sam died in 1980 through his car diving into the canal during a chase - although no body was ever found which raises hope in my optimistic little heart that, just as Gene and Alex are closing for their kiss in the final episode of Series 3 (still to be filmed at the moment), Sam will come crashing through the door to claim Gene as his very own snuggle puppy, push Alex out of a window and run off with Gene for a lifetime of smutty slashy goodness.

Anyway, I digress.  At the time of writing, Gene thinks Sam is dead and is heartbroken.  This compact and bijou little fic gives us an insight into the wreck that is Gene after his loss and how he finds, just a little, hope again.

It's the sort of fic that you want to hug to your breast to keep you warm, cozy and hopeful that our Sammy will, one day, return.

I loved it.  I hope you do to.

um, would you mind putting the spoilers behind a cut or something? I did not actually know what had happened to Sam (never watched the last few episodes, though I do plan on doing that eventually...), and maybe someone else doesn't know yet, too.

I'm so sorry if I've spoiled it for you.

The point I used was made in A2A over 2 years ago, nearly three now and, as a whole lot of time has gone by since then, we've been utilising the canon of LoM and A2A in its entirety for some time now, working on the theory that most everyone would know about it by now. Therefore what I posted wasn't construed, in the fandom, as being a spoiler.

Yeah, I was sure it was something like that, no real need to apologize. Of course it's established canon in the fandom, and you just don't bother with spoiler cuts and things after a certain amount of time. It's just cause it's a multifandom community, and people get into different things at different times. And while you do get spoilt by osmosis to a certain degree, it's not always so black on white. I mean, I guessed he was dead, but didn't know about drowning in the canal and there being no body. Things like that.
It's not really bad, though I would have preferred to stay unspoilt, but if placing it behind a cut keeps someone else unspoilt, I'm happy.

But part of what crack_van is about is enticing new readers into your fandom. Like me, who hasn't seen an episode of the series and who might be disappointed to find out how it all ended...

I'm not upset, by the way - this wasn't a spoiler to me. I just wanted to point out that crack_van is not only about reccing the best stories in your fandom to people already in the fandom, but to bring new readers in, as well.
