Why this must be read:

Everyone has that one fic that they read over and over again. Winds of Change, one of the fics I recc’ed earlier this month, is one of mine, but another one that I can’t get enough of is Cyndi’s Seven Minutes.

The rain pelted his face in a persistent cold drizzle, and he was glad to scrub at the fresh streaks that were fast mixing with the wetness already collected there. Then grabbed Jack's sleeve. "Tell me again." Again, because maybe he missed something important, something he needed to know...
Jack sighed. "Hutch, we've already been over it--"
"Again, Jack," Hutch commanded.
Jack backed off. He flipped open his notebook. "Eleven thirty-seven p.m.," he droned, his voice dry, his syllables clipped. "Dispatch sent out a notice of a two-eleven – liquor store robbery." He jerked a thumb behind him toward a rundown building. "Starsky radioed in his location and offered to assist with the call. Eleven thirty-nine – he called back in to say he was on the scene. Eleven forty-six – the area patrol car responded to the call, found the storeowner dead and the cash register empty. They scouted the area and found the car here, still running but empty. They recognized it, did a brief search, then called it in. Nothing – he's gone."
"Gone where?" Hutch shot back, then cut off the emotion welling in him. Seven minutes – just seven minutes and it was over.

Hutch’s fear for his missing partner is palpable, which is only one of the reasons the story is so gripping. Captain Dobey, who innately realizes what the forced separation is doing to his best team, is a solid bedrock of support. I think it's one of the strongest characterizations of Captain Dobey I've ever read.
