Why this must be read:
First off, it's hilarious. It's not so much the fact that Fraser begins with a serious tone that softens as he ponders the upcoming changes in his relationship with Ray, but that Dief haggles with him about donuts (hee!). It's also very sweet as the snippet touches on both Fraser and Dief's idea of them being a Pack (with Ray being a third member of the group).
akamine_chan keeps both Fraser and Dief's voices en pointe even as she's making you go aww and haha at the same time. A lovely fic.
Ben waited until they were alone in the Consulate before bringing up the subject.
“Diefenbaker, I need to speak to you about something very important.”
Dief opened one eye and peered at Ben, wondering what he wanted now. Probably another lecture on the perils of junk food. He shut his eye and pretended to go back to sleep, breathing loudly through his nose to imitate a snore.
“Dief.”
He twitched an ear, hearing the worry and fear in Ben's voice.
“Dief, please.”
With a loud sigh, Dief got up and walked over to Ben's desk, sitting next to him. He curled his lip at Ben to show his disdain and waited for the expected lecture on how bad Dief's beloved donuts were.
