It's an AU story with at twist in the end. If you like AU, it's a must. If you don't like them, read it all the same – the end surprises in more than one way. And what do we have there? We have a man whose name, past and destiny is unknown and who is trying to find peace of mind in his new home. Fortunately he is not alone. He finds a real friend, but will their friendship last when the past is revealed?

A page for the monastic brothers rode out bearing a white flag of peace to greet our group as soon as we were mid-field before the gated walls. As the highest-ranking officer, Starski cantered forward, brandishing the banner of Kalif before him. Something within me rose with hope and pride as we watched him ride out, the blue and gold of the crown streaming above his head. Here was a man I could follow into battle, serve with my life for a cause and country we believed in. He was a man of virtue, a man of honor.

A man I called brother, friend.
