Listen to Your Heart by Kallie (R)
Fandom: Tour of Duty
Characters: Lt Myron Goldman/Sgt Zeke Anderson
Length: 20411 words
Author on LJ: No LJ
Author Website: Notes From the Underground
Why this is a must read:
This story is a long, satisfying read, following a seven-episode arc throughout the latter half of second season and the beginning of third season with an epilog set after the war. Kallie does a wonderful job of interweaving missing scenes and canon scenes, all emphasizing the subtext so obvious to all slashers. Particularly enjoyable is how she contrasts the vapid relationship between Lt Goldman and self-absorbed wire service reporter Alex Devlin with the deep friendship/love he shares with Sgt Anderson.
Excerpt:
"Those your guys?" Alex asks, as choppers filled with my ex-platoon touch down on the landing pad.
"Not anymore." A lump immediately settles in my throat as soon as the flippant words are out of my mouth. Zeke. Zeke was 'my guy.' Not any more.
I still check the choppers when 'my guys' return from a mission. I can't help myself and I can't turn it on and off like Alex does. Besides, I need to know Zeke's okay.
I'm grateful when Alex touches my shoulder in a rare show of support. She's happy. She survived her story and is leaving for Paris tomorrow morning. She's upbeat and ready for a new adventure. I can't help wondering if she'll be faithful.
