Why this must be read: For my last XF rec on this go, I thought I'd fast-forward again to the I Want to Believe era of fanfic. Fair warning, there be SPOILERS for the 2nd XF movie in this rec.
Scarletbaldy wrote a great glimpse into how things went for Mulder and Scully as they moved into the house that we saw at the beginning of the film. Coming from both POVs, this is how a couple with a heavy and dark history manage to come together finally, with all their baggage along for the ride, but without it destroying them as they carry it. This is how things finally work for our dynamic duo.
There's a lyrical beauty to this short story, and it hits the right notes with characterization. You'll recognize this Mulder and Scully, even if you didn't see the film. These are the characters I remember and still love, with scars dulled into twisted tissue, but not overwhelming them.
