Why this must be read:

Invariably by the end of the month, I'm usually asking all my friends who read fic to help me recommend some good fic. I asked around and got this response, "have you recommended any of Circe's stories?" I said no, and continued looking for other stories to recommend. After finding many in a row that had already been recommended here, I decided to go back and give Circe a try. My reluctance was not because I don't think Circe's a great author (she is!), or that I haven't read much of her work (I've read it all!), or because I don't think it is worthy of being recommended (it is!), it's because quite honestly ... I hadn't read it in awhile and had forgotten HOW good it was.

This story is a post-ep to "Elegy," you know, the one in the bowling alley with the dead girls with "She Is Me" scratched into their chests? Yeah, that's also the one where we learn that Scully is dying. So does Mulder. I think the X-Files Cancer Arc was one of the best story arc's of ANY series. It is what made season 4 so good and it was beautifully played by both Mulder and Scully. This story tells of the moment just after "Elegy" when Mulder and Scully must've had that very real discussion about her own mortality. It is angsty, gut-wrenching, and powerful. This takes you back to that cancer arc, puts you in Mulder and Scully's heads, and asks - whose truth is whose?

Thank you for that rec. That was so real, heart-breaking, and completely in character. My brother and I are actually having an X-Files marathon(we're watching all 9 seasons from beginning to end) and we just watched this episode tonight. Seeing everything from the beginning and how their partnership develops leading up to the cancer arc has been really incredible. It's made me totally agree with what you said, it's the best story arc they had on the show, and one of the best crafted in TV history imho. This is such a great post-ep look. Thanks again :)
