Why this must be read:
Lindsey/Xander is a rare pairing with good reason, as the characters never came close to meeting on either series. In this fic, the authors make this pairing work, and they do it without destroying Lindsey's canon characterization. This is a loooong fic that takes off in an AU direction after You're Welcome, with an entirely different outcome to Lindsey disappearing from Wolfram and Hart. He winds up with Cordelia (and Doyle's) visions, and Xander's team of Slayers just happens to have room for a Seer. The characters and relationships evolve over the course of the fic, never ignoring where they started from in canon.
The man--Xander--returned with the 7-Up and saltines, and set them on the bedstand. Lindsey was surprised by how much his hands shook as he picked up the glass and scooped up the aspirin. He took the pills, and sipped on the soda. "So, what happens now?" he asked hoarsely.
"Well, we finish drying you out as step one. For that, I prescribe painkillers, sleep, and food. Now, if I'm any judge, you're not up for anything resembling food beside crackers, right?"
The thought of food made him nauseous. "Right." A pause. "You realize the instant I get better, I'm going to leave, right?" If the damned pull would let him, that is, which he doubted.
Xander's eyebrows went up. "If you want. We're not going to tie you up or anything. It will answer a question we've been debating."
Lindsey might have lifted an eyebrow, if his entire scalp didn't ache. "Which is?"
Xander grinned. "If you have a choice. Have a good nap." He stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him, heading downstairs to talk to Giles.
