Why this must be read:
Because it's glorious. Following on from Journey's End there was a plethora of fic about Donna's ending, and this is easily my favourite. As well as being incredibly clever and witty, it deals with questions such as how could Donna live with her Time Lord consciousness? What would Jack do with a half alien accident of emergency genetics? And where would a newly minted Time Lord find a companion in the Torchwood basement?
"Are you learning how to be a Time Lord Doctor Donna."
She eyed him over the bulk of the field generator set on the base of his prison.
"They said some of it sloshed over the side when I was busy not burning out and dying horribly."
"Pain and loss can bring gain, gain and vision. Things you've been searching for will appear in that heart of suffering."
Donna's mouth drew into a thin line that couldn't help but be amused.
"You're really completely barking aren't you?"
"I am unique," Dalek Caan sounded both happy and satisfied by the prospect.
