Evil Elf Story, by Devon (G)

Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: None
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] devon
Author Website: Devon's Disarray (http://devon.intranet.org/)

Why this must be read:

The story behind this next story is half the fun.

Speranza is a *highly* talented writer in due South, and a couple-three years ago put together a challenge through the email lists - '101 Ways to End Up in a Canadian Shack' - a multi-fandom sort of monster. Well received because it brought together a lot of fandoms and a lot of good writing.

Then a year or so later Speranza got an lj as [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza and made the mistake of publicly musing the then-current LoTR-inspired 'secret elf' cliche. (I'd not noticed such a tendency, but there you go.) Cesperanza - still new to lj and the mighty ripple effect, compounded her error by posting a challenge - "Who in your fandom would be the *worst* person to turn out to be an elf?"

The results are posted at Elves! Live in Las Vegas!", and when you go read the stories, do check out the blurb in the center of the page, which is one of the best parts.

One of the fifty-five fandoms written for was Firefly, and Devon very well captures the voices and the body language of the characters. It's a fun read - go, feed the author.

Firefly Evil Elf

(I'm not sure if there is a real title to this, but there you go.)

As a bit of sidedish, here is another Jayne story, nearly a drabble, set after The Message

Mail Call, by [livejournal.com profile] tafkar

Very short, very funny, very much in character.
