Why this must be read:

With one story, penname_please has addicted me to a pairing I've never read. Heck, I've never really liked Neji. But The Unspoken Rules has given me a new appreciation for Skikamaru/Neji and the ANBU in general.

After a chance meeting on a deadly mission, Skikamaru and Neji find being friends help them survive the pressure of being ANBU. But other pressures they didn't count on - including clan Hyuugai's and their own expectations - could derail their new relationship. What's a lazy jounin just promoted to War Leader to do? Plan for every contingency, of course.

Fast, fun, and insightful, it's a delightful romp and if you can't get enough (like me), also enjoy the series of one-shots sequels (so far, 15) provided in More Unspoken Rules. But definitely, plan to spend a chunk of time and go discover The Unspoken Rules.

*love* my second OTP in naruto is definately shika/neji (a smidge above kaka/iru). don't know what it is about geniuses, but they absolutely capture my heart and imagination. thank you! on side note, sometimes neji reads a lot like sasuke to me in shika/neji fics. doesn't bother me cause they do share commonalities in canon and i love love sasuke :) i've tried neji/sasu and it doesn't have the same shine as narusasu or shikaneji. weird huh....

Now, see my favorite pairing outside of NaruSasu is definitely LeeGaa. I've never had an author just lock me in with one story, but Diplomatic Relations shaped how I see Naruto universe forever. I love neji, I really like him with Naruto or Lee, but Shikamaru just belongs to Chouji and Ino in my mind. And I don't know who did that 'pairing' first, or if I even have one story ... wait, that isn't true. If you read Self Reliance (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2427539/1/SelfReliance), afterwards, there is a great series of stories called InoShikaCho OneShots (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2680832/1/InoShikaCho_OneShots). That's where I got hooked on them. Wow, I had forgotten.

But Unspoken Rules just sneaked up on me and now I'm hunting for the pairing. Sigh. And now that I'm been draw into the dark side with het, guess I must admit I read it all now. So embarrassing!!
