Why this must be read: Heyes and Curry are exhausted, holed up in some small town ruminating over the events that brought them to this particular town and whether or not they'll get their amnesty over a friendly glass of whiskey while Heyes attempts to read a dime novel he found in their room. Just the kind of scene we'd see in the show. It's filled with warmth, friendly banter and the camaraderie that made the chemistry between the two former outlaws so memorable. Honestly, this could be a missing scene from an episode, it's just that good.

I absolutely love the Chick Walker stories. Some of the very best in the fandom, IMO. "Happiness" is one of my feel-good stories, that I read when I need a pick-me-up, and "A Safeful Of Diamonds" is one of the best things ever. :D

Happiness and Safeful of Diamonds's are both mine, aamof so, thank you for taking the trouble to read them and comment so kindly! An absolute treasure. Chases, hotel rooms, a bed that's slightly too small, banter, dark shadows of unavoidable doubts, more banter, a fantastic pie caper, a gentle, subdued ending - who needs slash when you can have all this in one story?

Betsy will be gone from the Kid's mind in a couple of days' time, we all know where his loyalties and love lie.
