First Love by Sarah Baker [PG-13]
Fandom: FOREVER KNIGHT
Pairing: general
Length: 7550 words
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: fanfic archived here
Why this must be read: A Forever Knight episode has a fairly simple setup: Nick and Schanke (or Nick and Tracy) investigate a homicide, while something pertaining to the case causes Nick to reflect on a similar incident or theme from his 800 year history. This story could be eased in quite smoothly into season 2 canon, especially where the interaction between Nick, Schanke and Natalie are concerned. The reader gets a very entertaining story involving a young witness' infatuation with Nick and a flashback to Nick's first love when he was young and mortal. How can you resist a story with teenage!Nick? There aren't a lot of stories that can claim an appearance by young Nick and this one delivers in spades.
Nick let out the breath he'd been holding and dropped into his chair. Natalie emerged from behind him and propped herself on the corner of his desk. "What was that?" she asked, trying not to laugh.
"It looks like our star witness has a bit of a crush on our star detective," Schanke answered, not even trying to hide his chuckles.
Nick frowned.
"Well... I can see why." Natalie pinched Nick's cheek."He's just *so* cute!"
Nick's frown began to smolder. "It's not funny," he announced without a shred of amusement. "She's a child."
Natalie laughed. "Not exactly a child, Nick. She's a young woman, and you might be her first 'older man'. Play nice, now, and let her down gently."
