Why this must be read:
Despite its enormous plotholes, High School Musical 3 did give us some good things, and one of the best, in my opinion, is the friendship between Ryan and Kelsi. Since the film, Ryan and Kelsi's BFF-ness has popped up in several fics, and this is one of the most charming examples. Kelsi isn't present in this fic just to observe and support Chad and Ryan's relationship (although she does that); she's a character in her own right, with her own crush and worries. This is a warm, fun fic full of engaging little details.
"Chad doesn't mock me about the Mandy thing."
"That's probably because he apparently engages in the same kind of shameful Mandy Moore-loving behavior as you."
"Except he didn't actually like How to Deal. So now you should let me continue with my story. After the movie, he told me that while he agreed that the dude was way hot and that Mandy is awesome, he didn't really like the movie. Which, whatever, it's not her best work, so I totally understood. But then, when I put on a different movie--Singing in the Rain because, seriously, it's got Cyd plus Sharpay once said that if she was going to be going around kissing someone then they might as well have an appreciation for Gene Kelly, and I fully agree."
"You are being so gay right now."
"You're wearing a sweater vest, you big lesbian."
"Touché. Continue, please."
