Why This Must Be Read: Lori Wright is, without a doubt, the master of the crossover. One of the biggest aggravations of writing a crossover is properly blending the universes and not wasting time with the set up. Lori does this seamlessly. It is so very easy to imagine her crossovers not being crossovers at all. That the world of Highlander and the world of the Sentinel really do live side by side and that Cascade's just up the road from Seacouver.
In this one, Lori is markedly cruel to Jim Ellison. She makes him babysit piano virtuoso Claudia Jardine. Who, unbeknownst to him, is Immortal. And untrained. And no Duncan MacLeod in sight to run interference.
And, to make things worse, someone is trying to kill her. It very well may be the assignment that drives Jim 'round the bend.
Excerpt: Jim slammed the door shut behind them. Damned woman. He walked around to the other side, giving his surroundings a quick scan. Nothing caught his eye, so he opened the door and got behind the wheel.
"So do you boys know anything about real music?" she asked as they drove.
It is, without a doubt, a hugely entertaining crossover and, for Highlander fans, Lori slips the appropriate nods to HL in. Guaranteed to make the knowledgeable fans giggle.
