Why this must be read:
Don't believe them when they tell you Alias is built on sexy costumes and funky gadgets and blowing shit up. All that is good, mind you, but Alias is built on relationships. And among my favorites are the relationships between The Spy Family--Sydney, Jack, and Laura/Irina.
Somewhere in the middle of season one, someone (poohmusings, maybe?) coined a term, UPT--Unresolved Parental Tension, as opposed to the one you've probably heard, Unresolved Sexual Tension. Sydney and her dad have spent the better part of the show trying to figure each other out. They've slapped at each other (verbally and otherwise), gotten each other in trouble, and there was the time where Jack almost blew Sydney up, but it was an accident, Officer, really! *g*
This story takes place when Sydney is seven, about twenty years before the first season of Alias, although it has spoilers through episode 1.18, "Masquerade." It's entirely from Jack's point of view, and it's a fantastic look into his head, scary place that it is.
