Unforgotten by Gil Hale (PG-13)
Hi, I'm Seremela and I'll drive the Mag7 van this month. Which, I admit, I'm starting with way too late, sorry for that. So I'll begin with making up for that right now.
A lot of my favorite stories have already been recced, but one that's right at the top of my list hasn't yet, so I'm very happy to rec it as my first Mag7 rec on the van:
Fandom: MAGNIFICENT SEVEN TV SHOW
Pairing: none
Length: long (431K)
Author on LJ: I don't think so
Author Website: Gil Hale's literary leaflets
Type of story/universe gen, ATF universe
Why this must be read: Everything Gil Hale writes is worth reading - she hasn't been recced here before for nothing. Hale is a truly great writer, not only when it comes to writing style and plot, but also when it comes to characterisation. The characters are very canon in her stories, one of the things that to me make a fic that much more enjoyable and she has a marvellous subtlety in showing their emotions.
From all her stories I love Unforgotten the best. It's a very poignant story about the strength of friendship winning over all odds and about strength of character doing the same. The first is shown in Vin and Ezra's relentless pursuit of their quest to find Chris after he has gone missing, no matter the consequences to themselves. But also in the worry of their other teammates over them. And the latter in Chris overcoming what has happened to him. What that is shows that sometimes determination to do the right thing no matter what can overcome even great hate. The plot is great and keeps you wondering. The way Vin and Ezra care for Chris and Chris struggles to find his way back to who he was is touching and beautifully written.
