False Dawn by Lopaka Tanu (R)
The second one is top of my list as well and here I can't believe that no one has recced Lopaka Tanu before. Maybe because she doesn't follow the already welltrodden paths of a lot of fics in this fandom? Maybe because she doesn't lay it all out for her readers, but sometimes only hints at things, so they can be missed by those who want a quick and easy read? I have no idea, I just know she seems fairly unknown in this fandom as a writer, which is a shame IMO.
Fandoms: MAGNIFICENT SEVEN TV SHOW
Pairing: Chris/Buck, Vin/Ezra
Author: Lopaka Tanu
Length: rather long (almost 8.500 words)
Story type/universe: slash, Deep space nine universe
Author on LJ:
i_want_2
Author Website: Multiple fandom fanfiction asylum (set to the entries for Magnificent seven stories, but she has written a whole lot more, see the sidebar)
Why this must be read:
Totally wonderful story, like all of her work. Lopaka Tanu has a knack of writing just enough to let you in on things, leaving most of it alone and to your own imagination. This story rocks big time and she transferred the seven seamlessly to a space station in the Star Trek Universe. NOT a crossover, but what is called a fusion: the characters from magnificent seven don't meet the characters from Deep space nine, they sort of have taken over their places in this universe, making this yet another of the many AUs this fandom knows.
Aside from the story between Chris and Buck that she unfolds slowly, I also love how strong Nathan Jackson (major Jakon) is here. Not as a healer this time, and front and center in this fic the way he seldom is. She's one of the few writers in this fandom that shows the strong person Nathan is, and had to be in the original series to overcome what he did and find his place as a healer in a mostly allwhite village. The man who was almost hung, but still had strength to throw his knife with utmost precision into an enemy *g*
