Why this must be read:

One of the most interesting (and oft-neglected) things about Nick is his upbringing. His parents are high-profile people back in Texas, and he comes from a big family where he was nurtured, but never really felt free to be himself. One way of interpreting that particular canon detail is that Nick never really felt free to express his sexuality while he was growing up in Texas. Leaving home gave him a sense of freedom in certain respects, but we can only assume that those limitations are still there when he does go home.

This fic explores Nick's relationship with his family through the person of his mother, her discomfort with the idea of him in a committed relationship with a guy, and ponders just how supportive Nick's family might be if they were pushed to deal with the presence of Greg in Nick's life. Yes, it's Nick/Greg fic, but it's more a character study of Nick and the place he comes from. It's short and sweet and well worth your time.
