Why this must be read:
Because not only is it a believable, engaging and original take on the start of Spock and Uhura’s relationship (unlike the majority of ‘how they got together’ fics, it starts from a place of mutual antipathy), but it’s also a thought-out exploration of culture in the Trek universe, the (occasionally humorous) misunderstandings that can arise, and ways that gap can be bridged. Bonus for the overall portrayal of life in the Academy, and the spot-on characterizations of various other canon characters that pop up.
