Althoughdakfinv is slightly infamous (and much loved) in the fandom for her Sam!whumping, the reason this story must be read is for its gripping plot and for the amazing insight she gives to Gene's character through his reactions to Sam's degrading health.
This fic could easily be an episode of the show and every time I read it I'm always wishing it had been.
