Why this must be read:
This must be read because it is written by Lemon Drop. That alone is recommendation enough. But Lemon Drop has given us so many beautiful, wonderful, rich Sentinel stories that I need to say something about this particular one. I don't fully understand this story even though I have read it many times. Each time I find new emotions, new insights, new sorrow.
You get the story of Blair's life, told first from Naomi's perspective and then from Jim's, but at each crucial junction, you have Blair's voice, describing and then adjusting his fantasy of how his mother's house would be to accommodate him.
The execution of this story is masterful. The tenderness the author feels for all the characters, even Simon making a brief cameo, is wrenching. I am sad, and grateful, every single time I read this.
