Why this must be read:
This story is amazing. Flat out, straight up, one of the best Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto fics out there. Jen's characterization is spot on, and the story is emotional and touching. The Two of Us is a story told backwards, starting 20 years in the future and working backwards to pre-Trek 2009, but it really, really works. Plus, she's now made it an entire universe, with snippets and interludes all set in the intervening 20 years, and sharing Chris and Zach's journey through life together with us.
Zach sat up and took another puff off the cigarette before resting it in the ashtray. “You’re the one who kissed me,” he pointed out.
Chris laughed. “I’m aware,” he said.
“Complicated isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” Zach said. “Simple can be boring.”
Chris smiled and stroked a hand over Zach’s leg. “That’s one thing you’re not.”
