Why this must be read: My personal mantra as a writer and reader (and baseball fan) is that no one can hit it out of the park every time – unless you'recirramin. She's only written a few stories for Supernatural but they are gems. While all of her fic is well written in a style distinctly her own, "Take These Sunken Eyes" takes a common idea that most fic readers have seen a dozen times and she makes it fresh and new. The twists and turns are delicious and character-driven; the plot is as tight as the pacing, which results in a one-shot that feels longer. The description is sparse but pops – I feel the emptiness, the dirt, and the grime that filters over everything as Dean makes his way through the wasteland to find Sam. The build-up is skillfully written and when Sam and Dean finally unite, it is everything a love story should be, but most importantly it is quintessentially Sam and Dean.
