Why this must be read: I could happily rec pretty much anythingigrockspock has written and this, obviously, is no exception. Its premise is Gaila's attempts to fit into the radically different Human society at Starfleet Academy - how she struggles to understand Human mores and relationships in the face of occasionally hostile reactions. For some reason, Gaila really seems to have caught the imagination of fic writers, and there're some great fics out there exploring her character and background etc, but this is one of the earliest and, I think, best. In places a little sad, it's mostly a story about a character with determination and a good heart.
The Proper Treatment of Sexorexia
After the sexual harassment seminar, Gaila feels even more out of place. People here just don't get her. Harassment means offering yourself more than once to people who don't want you, and she never does that. She has some pride, thank you very much, and anyway, enough people want her that she doesn't need to beg people who said no. It's not like she kept offering to go down on Nyota after that one time she screamed and ran away.
