Why this must be read: because Isis is an excellent writer, and this story has pitch-perfect characterizations while being a creepy and horrific tale about how twisted Hugh and Callum can be. Separate and apart, they're broken, fucked up, their personalities well suited to addiction. Together, they have this weird synergistic energy that goes beyond the bounds of normal into something else.
This is not a comfortable story. It's a disturbing view of two people feeding off each other in all the wrong ways and well worth reading.

There's this electric glint in Callum's eyes, and it's coming this close to freaking Hugh out. Because he's used to being the craziest fucker in the room: that's how he got Bruce McDonald to give him Joe Dick, and that's probably why Bruce thought of him for the role in the first place. There's a little of Joe Dick in him - hell, there's a lot of Joe Dick in him, and he might have ended up the same way, a strung-out asshole putting a bullet through his brain, if it hadn't been for Callum, steady and smooth, coaching him on character development and the fucking virtues of sobriety.
