Hutch had been filling the coffee pot, but stopped. Unable to look at Greg, or speak, he simply nodded.
"For how long? I mean, before us?"
Again, Hutch nodded. He took a breath, and then looked at Greg. "I've always loved him. Before I was even aware of my own sexuality, I loved him. I want him so badly, but I've learned to settle for just being with him. Being his partner on the streets, if not in the sheets." Hutch smiled wanly at his own tired joke.
"So why have you waited so long to tell him?"
"Because it was never an issue before. It was only ever Starsky I wanted."
"So you wanted me?"
"Yes. No. I don't know. When I saw you, something about you, reminded me of Starsky. Maybe it's the hair, the chest, the jeans...I don't know. I thought that maybe if I couldn't have Starsky..."
"You could be happy with someone who reminded you of him?"
"Yes. I'm ashamed to admit it but, yes."
"And you're not happy."
