Why this must be read: Written during the '07 WGA strike, this is a quiet, thoughtful sort of story; hot and sad and somehow still hopeful at the same time. There's so much chemistry between Callum and Katee andcrickets uses that in a novel way. Sex doesn't drive this story; longing does.

He says her name, a warning, but makes no claims that he’s been woken up. She’d know better anyway. His hands are covered in reds and browns and whites, the evidence. He always did paint best at night. Maybe that’s why he does it. It keeps him busy during all those restless hours.
