American Triangle by Kat (R)
Fandom: Alias
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Dumb Show
Pairing: Sydney/Will, Sydney/Vaughn
Rating: R
Why this must be read: Style. It's an AU from first season, and the characters are very different from their current onscreen incarnations, and like most of Kat's work this story has a dreamlike, almost hallucinatory quality (which I realize is kind of a cliche phrase as descriptions go, but accurate here), but this was the first really major piece of Alias fan fiction I ever read and it's stayed with me through two years and multiple rereadings because of the writing and characterization, which are never less than interesting. I especially like how "American Triangle" gives Sydney's relationships with both Will and Vaughn a real, complicated, true sense of emotional weight--but trapped by their histories, what can she or any of the men in her life ever know about happy endings?
