Why this must be read:
Scribe's stories are some of my favorites when it comes to the use of historical settings in this fandom. And Lime-Vanilla is a step above the rest. The way the story is written, I don't feel like I'm reading a history lesson or textbook. She interweaves her historical details very subtly like her gentle description of an early twentieth century ice cream shop or the use of historical current events throughout the narrative. And all the while, the story's main focus is on the relationship developing between these two men.
I also really like the gentle way in which this story is told. When the story is in the past, it's almost dream-like in some passages. And for a fic that deals with past lives and whatnot, that is very fitting. And her use of that past lives story device! Very touching and yet it made me tear up something fierce. Thankfully, it ends happily. So definitely give this story a shot. It's a very well written jaunt through a past life of Jim and Blair's that will leave you breathless and your heart filled with emotion. A prime example of Scribe's writing.
