Why this must be read:This is not a season nine story, but since I've never actually watched it(yes, I'm one of those people), I'm not the best source for fanfiction.

I have another confession to make: the first time I read this, I didn't even like it that much. I just could not get past my conviction that, no matter how much she might want to see him again, nothing short of a visit from beyond the grave, as in Anjou's "Ghosts," would entice Dana Scully to risk endangering her son.

My second time through, I ignored that part and just read the rest of it. And the rest of it is excellent; in fact, for my money, this might the best story she's written to date. The scene that the story takes its name from, of the "one and only, first and last Scully-Mulder family portrait" was moving and memorable, as were all of the little details of their lives, both before and after Williams's birth. There are too many great scenes and the story is too short to quote here. You folks just need to go read this for yourselves.
