Jim is a bitter, disillusioned Vice cop who is about to transfer to Major Crime. He's on vacation, wanting nothing more than good surfing and nameless sex partners, when he meets up with a rather unusual hippie-boy, who will change his life forever. This is a wonderful AU story that weaves in a fantastical, mythic aspect in a completely realistic and believeable way.

What a surprise to scroll down my f-list and see this. I almost fell out of my chair. Seriously, thank you for reccing this story. It was a milestone for me, since it was the first really long one I totally finished and posted.

This is so very much one of my favorites, too; I love the way the mythical aspect is handled from Jim's casual, ordinary, totally not-mythical voice. And I could go on and on here; there are so many things I'd like to say with delight about this fic -- but if I say them I might venture into being spoilery and that can't be good, so I'm sitting on my hands instead, with my lips now firmly zipped up, muttering the rest of my words of love too quietly for the unspoiled to hear. (It's not easy, though, to be this quiet about this fic...)
