aishuu and I'm reccing for animanga this month. Sorry for the amazingly late start - I've been afk until now. I'm going for a rec a day until the end of the month.
Reccing for animanga is like being told to rec for "books" or "tv" - there's such an amazingly large spectrum to choose from. I'm focusing on reccing "small" series which haven't really been recced much, hopefully showcasing just how much variety is out there under the animanga umbrella.
Fandom: ANIME/MANGA - TWELVE KINGDOMS (JUUNI KOKKI)

Why this must be read:
Twelve Kingdoms is one of those anime series that is really unique in feel, featuring a very different kind of fantasy setting and awesome, awesome characters (you want strong women, this is the anime series to go with). And if you want to start with the 12K fandom,canis_m is the writer to start with.
What makes this story sparkle - like all of Canis M's work, is the characterization and culture-building. 12K is a really unique world, although it is based heavily on Chinese culture, but Canis M never fails to write with almost lyrical descriptions while not avoiding some of the darker aspects of the series.
Since sex is kind of a question mark in the 12K universe (because people grow on trees... really!), this fic has that underlying tension in it since it does address the topic of rape of a young boy. It's a good topic for Taiki and Gyousou to address, since while they're so intertwined in each other, the subject has to come up. Very much love how Gyousou is both a warrior king and gentle man with Taiki, and how Taiki is so very kirin in this fic.

The muscles in Gyousou's jaw shifted. He surged up from his crouch with frustrated momentum, on the verge of pacing in circles, if not charging out of the tent. "A military camp is no place for you. But I've known that from the start."
Taiki lowered his eyes. "I don't belong here, and what those men were doing does." He looked up. "Is that what you mean?"
