Why this must be read:
When you're talking an overview of anime, you have to talk mecha, and that means Gundam. While Gundam Wing may have the largest western fandom, I prefer Gundam Seed. And my favorite Gundam Seed writer is Jusrecht.
I love Athrun/Kira, but what I really love about the series is the complex Athrun/Cagalli/Kira/Lacus permutations. Jusrecht writes all kinds of different scenarios for the four, and always manages to capture their characters wonderfully without villainizing anyone.
This particular piece of Jusrecht's is one of those cool structure pieces, offering a lot of compare/contrast between Athrun and Kira's lives as time progresses, while showing how intertwined they are. It really highlights the difference in their motivations - while Athrun and Kira may have a lot in common, they're really very different people who somehow arrive at the same place from two very different perspectives.
Plus, it's sweet. I like some happy for the boys.
