Learning to Improvise by Katherine (R)

Fandom: The Magnificent Seven
Pairing: Vin/Ezra
Length: ~315k
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Katherine's Magnificent Seven Fiction
Why this must be read:

So few stories deal with the consequences of others finding out about a homosexual relationship in the Old West, something that was considered immoral by most and was even illegal. In this case Vin and Erza fall in love and their friends slowly find out about them being a couple, with reactions ranging from being ecstatic to condemning them to hell. Katherine weaves all this together in a compelling and beautiful story that is a joy to read.

I highly recommend this series. It was well-written and gives you a different side to Vin and Ezra. READ ! READ ! READ !

I second the recommendation. All of Katherine's fiction is excellent, no matter what fandom she writes about -- and she writes in at least three, that I know of -- but Learning to Improvise is easily the best novel-length Vin/Ezra story I've ever read.

The reasons you give are certainly enough, but add to that the slowly revealed reasons for why her characters act as they do, the depth of caring Vin and Ezra have not only for each other, but for every member of the team, and the bond the seven share -- and you have a rich, wonderful picture of love and friendship that stands the test of time. The final chapter is as deeply layered and touching as the first six. The entire story is gritty, realistic, and hopeful. A definite must-read.
