Why this must be read:
With Victoria's Harry Potter fic, it's very hard to pick out just a few stories to rec so that you don't over-represent one author. This is her take on the "Five Things that Never Happened..." challenge that has produced so many great stories.
What if Lupin wasn't sorted into Gryffindor? What if he were never bitten by a werewolf? What if James hadn't succeeded in saving Snape from the Shrieking Shack? Victoria plays with all these options and the resulting changes to the relationships in four parts - one for each House - that are alternately sweet, horrifying, bittersweet, and heartwrenching.
