For my first recommendation, I offer you a vignette, set after Objects in Space. Lane gives us a brief insight into what Kaylee might have been feeling in the aftermath of Jubal Early’s visit to Serenity. Kaylee’s thoughts and modes of speech are not as perfectly nuanced as some other Firefly fics I’ve read, but the overall tone is just right. Kaylee’s feeling scared and guilty, Simon is strong and reassuring, and River is…. River. All in all, it’s worth the time.
