So Wise We Grow (Master Post) by Deastar (R)

I'm Mick and I'll be the driver of the Trek: Reboot van this month.

One of the first things I do upon discovering a new fandom is check the Crack Van for "must reads." So, when I saw the call for Trek drivers, I felt I had to do my part for Reboot fans out there looking for good fic. As for my tastes, K/S is my OOTP, but I'll read just about any Trek pairing. Primarily, though, whether it's Slash or Gen, G or NC-17, the main pairing for my recs will be The Captain and his First Officer. I do, however, promise to rec at least one that either isn't or isn't just K/S.

I suck at summaries, so my contribution will be mostly why I picked the story and/or why I think it's a must read for Reboot fans.

Alright, let's get this baby on the road!

Fandom: STAR TREK: REBOOT
Pairing: (Kirk/Spock)
Length: (Word Count 81,000)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] captanddeastar
Author Website: The author's other works can be found here on AO3.
Why this must be read:

This story has been tagged as "kid fic," which normally is so much not my thing that I nearly skipped it entirely. I went back to it after I saw that it had been recommended nearly everywhere. I have never been sorry I ignored that personal preference and read this story anyway. It's kind of wonderful.

Summary: Spock inherits a problem his sense of duty will not let him ignore. Kirk jumps in to help because he needs to fix things, which includes himself and poor Spock. Awkwardness, family and love ensues.

So Wise We Grow (Master Post)

Oh yes, completely agree! K/S isn't my preferred pairing, but this fic is worth reading whatever your preferences!

Thanks for reccing this fic. I too have also seen it been recced in other communities and had given it a skip due to the child abuse theme but am really glad that i clicked on the link and gave the story a go. Funny and sad, u can't help but want to give Spock a big hug as he stumbles through the trials of fatherhood and cheering Jim as he slowly helps him along. The author has done an excellent job with the characters and from the first chapter, you are pulled into the story and their lives. We never did get to find out WHO exactly was responsible for the virus but u get so caught up in the characters that u really don't care LOL!!!

Very good rec, will keep an eye out and see what other gems you can pull out of your hat

It's nice to see what I think is excellence, be recognized many others - and I'm not really into kidfic!
