Burn Notice: Update to Fandom Overview with minor S3 and 4 spoilers

Welcome back to Miami, fans. Enjoy the beach and the view. It's been a little over a year since [livejournal.com profile] wizefics produced the fandom overview. The original is an excellent brief to get you oriented to the show, and I doubt I can improve upon it. So instead, I'm going to brief you on the aspects of the show that have played a major role for Season 3 and beyond since the original overview was produced.

Season 2 ended, and season 3 began, with Michael rejecting the protection and employment of Management. As a result, he was no longer protected from the law or former "co-workers".

Detective Paxson is from the Miami police department and has started an investigation into Michael, as well as his friends, and the numerous "explosive incidents" that seem to occur around individuals matching the team's descriptions. The attention is not welcome given Fiona's gun-running, and the illegal nature of many of Michael's clients.

Tom Strickler is a self-described agent to spies. He has many contacts and offers to use them to make Michael (and himself) a lot of money, and perhaps even get Michael back into the government's good graces. When Michael is less than cooperative, Strickler decides that Michael's attachments to Fiona holding back his superstardom. When Strickler tries to eliminate Fiona from the equation, it ends just about as well as you might think.

Agent Diego Garza is a spy working in Miami that Michael tracks down and forces to be his point of contact with the agency as he tries to get his burn notice lifted.

Mason Gilroy is a freelance spy of questionable mental stability. Michael agrees to work with Gilroy out of the hopes that by stopping Gilroy's "project", Michael will be able to write his ticket back into the government's good graces. Unfortunately, Gilroy manages to foil Michael's attempts to stop his "project", said "project" has no loyalty and kills Gilroy, and Michael ends up on the run from the full force of the government.

To call Simon Escher just a rogue operative would be like describing Mount Vesuvius a bad day. Michael unwittingly helps to release Simon, and Simon has an axe to grind with Michael. Namely that the burn notice that ended Michael's career is actually the greatest hits of Simon's life. When Michael works with management to put Simon back in a cage, Simon promises Michael that they will end up being exactly the same.

In season 4, Michael is once again working with Management.

Vaughn serves as Michael's contact, but has a lighter touch than Management's past handlers. He gives Michael some autonomy to decide how to complete his tasks, but holds the threat of taking over to keep Michael on task.

One of Michael's tasks leads to the accidental burning of counter intelligence expert Jesse Porter. Jesse is unaware of Michael's role in his burn notice, but confides his intention to track down and kill the person or persons responsible. As a result, Michael decides to keep Jesse very close in order to monitor and direct Jesse's search. by tne middle of season 4, Jesse is a part of the group, but eventually does discover the truth.

To the outside world, John Barrett is the head of a powerful telecommunications company. However, evidence reveals that he is the major arms dealer that Vaughn and Management have been trying to counter for quite some time. Michael makes contact with Barrett in order to barter some potentially damaging information. Unfortunately, other people have plans for this meeting and it does not go as planned.

That pretty much sums up the state of Michael Weston without getting too spoilery. The fandom is still pretty small, but as early seasons have started to run in syndication on other small networks, hopefully it will grow in the future. The communities haven't changed much, but I'll provide an updated rundown here. If I've missed anything, please comment and I'll add it in.
