Why this must be read:
This is a beautifully sad fic set in the alternate universe established in the episode Twilight. Every day, T’Pol has to tell Archer what has happened with the Xindi and what happened to Earth. Every night, he forgets everything she said. Monkee wonderfully illustrates what it is like for T'Pol in her role as Archer's caretaker. Over the years, she develops and intimate understanding of Archer, an understanding which he can never return in kind. There was a rustle of cloth on cloth as Jonathan sat down across from her. She had been lost in thought and had not heard him enter. Their eyes met briefly, then he looked down somewhat awkwardly. The day had been especially trying, and he was always uncertain, at this stage, how to relate to her - as a former first officer, a nurse, a friend, or a lover. She'd learned that it was best to let him feel his way through - their relationship was fluid, and difficult even for her to understand.

It's T'Pol and Malcolm Reed. In the episode "Shuttlepod One", Reed had that strange dream and they kissed in it.
