Why this must be read: Because it rounds off my brief taster selection of "couples" with a short, sharp hit of messy complexity. Some of my other recs have focused more on the positive aspects of coupledom. This one shines an exacting light on the difficulties. The author writes in a number of fandoms but this seems to be her only Mag7 piece. For something so brief it’s remarkably insightful.
I’ve found it quite hard this month not to always have Chris as one half of my chosen couples *g* Despite being the bad element and a tragic one at that, he seems perfect for pairing - perhaps because he’s the character focus of the show and because we know for sure that he, of all of them, has been part of a stable union in a previous life. In canon he even makes an abortive attempt to recreate the same kind of happiness he had with his wife, but makes the potentially fatal mistake of engaging with a madwoman. Hopefully by the end of the show’s run he’s realized he’d be better off with Vin or Buck or Ezra :)) Anyway, here he is being an enigma, and finding his partner an enigma.
Chris knew everyone thought he was the uncommunicative one, but he also knew the real master of miscommunication in their little band was Ezra.
