FIC: slayers by Kate Bolin (R)
Title: slayers
Fandom: BtVS
Pairing Kendra/Faith/Buffy
Author on LJ:
katemonkey
Author Website: The Pearl
Why this must be read:
After each patrol, we do the same thing. Shower in the group showers, and check each other for injuries. There's a bruise fading on my arm, already greenish brown. Kendra has a bigger bruise on her back, about the size of a man's boot. She winces as I scrub her back, but, soon enough, something as big as this'll be gone by morning. Faith chipped another tooth, and she spits blood into the drain as she washes her hair.
This is out of the Wishverse, and quite honestly I'd never really considered Faith or Kendra there at all. But Kate weaves together a different Slayer mythos, a different set of working relationships, a way to survive in a world that's just a little bit sharper, a little more dangerous, than the one we've come to know.
slayers is pretty characteristic of Kate's work: gritty, sparse, and a completely fascinating idea that you can't help but awe over. To live in her head for one day, you know? The pairing is unusual, but hot as hell, and even though I have my issues with the first person, good fiction compels you to overcome your personal icks. Read it.
