Why this must be read:

Once upon a time Alan Eppes knew a solider boy. His name was Charles Donald Lathrup but everyone called him Charlie. He liked to surf and read and had green eyes and one day he was sent off to war.

Years later Alan met another soldier boy who had green eyes, still carried a gun and played chess.

This little set of three stories should not work. For any reason. It should be crack!fic. It's not. Not even close. It's sweet and powerful and poetic and may require tissues in some places.

It's about war and history and the secrets that families keep.

I don't know how else to sell this except to say give it a try, you just might like it.

This is seriously one of my favorite Numb3rs fic EVER - ladygray makes Alan's story so believably heartbreaking, and Colby's role in Alan's life so important, that it is impossible not to fall for them. Great rec!
