Who We Are by ladygray99 (NC-17)
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Pairing: David/Charlie
Length: 130,000
Author on LJ:

Author Website: http://ladygray99.livejournal.com
Why this must be read:
This is a story that is hot off the press, only a few months old.
Charlie and David are rare in the Numb3rs fandom and seem to be mostly relegated to occasional smut.
This is a bit different.
If you've never believed that Charlie/David could/should work read this. You'll be a believer by chapter 2.
This story is cannon through about mid season 6 so Charlie is on the verge of getting the perfect happy ending, except he doesn't want it. After 20 years of hiding who he is he hits bottom and can only consider one way out.
That said this isn't a dark story.
No, wait, it's a story about suicide and being in the closet. It's a dark story, but it's not a DARK story.
It never feels dark for the sake of dark. The author isn't trying to traumatize her readers. Even in the darkest moments there is a sense of momentum and a feeling that maybe the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train. There are even bits that are snort your beer funny.
The UST is perfect with no magic fix or healing!cock, just Charlie (with David's help) coming to grips with who he is and what his life is truly worth.
If you've even lied about who you are you need to read this story. If you've ever known someone who's been in the closet you need to read this story. The rest of you just read this story.
