Why this must be read:
Keeping with the early theme, Kristine Williams' fic was some of the earliest posted in the fandom, and while I don't know exactly when this story was posted, it's the first in a loose collection of stories that culminates with The Dancing, another of my favorites, but one that's already been recced here.
One reason I like this story is because it explores Jim's senses. A common and innocuous environmental event leads to a terrifying altercation between Jim and Blair (so be warned if that's not your thing), but Blair perseveres in figuring out what happened, as well as a solution. I also like the way she writes Blair - he's a little younger, a little bit more immature than we see him in later seasons, but still focused on helping Jim learn to manage his gift. A reasonable way to view Blair through the lens of the first season.
