Why this must be read: This is an AU, post-war fic and I have to give lots of warnings before I tell you why to read this: Child abuse; sexual abuse; rape of a minor; memory suppression. This is a difficult topic to write about but
warholhp manages it very well. Harry doesn't remember much about the war and his magic can get out of control for reasons he also doesn't remember. He's living with Draco, and while their relationship might appear dysfunctional to his friends, he's happy enough with his life. He's grown used to living without clear memories, content to run a home for trouble wizarding children. And then, his memories are triggered and everything falls apart.
This is a dark, angst-filled fic but it also illustrates the strength of survival. The revelation of who raped Harry as a child is shocking and watching how the return of those memories affects Harry is both painful and heartbreaking to read. At the same time, Harry is not alone -- both Hermione and Draco are very supportive of him and help him deal with the returned memories, offering suggestions and getting him help. The return of his memories isn't a quick fix for Harry; he's still broken and still doesn't remember everything but it does allow him to start to get a handle on his life.
There are many things Harry Potter doesn’t remember, but he has learned to stop worrying about it.
He doesn’t remember what happened in the moments and hours after he killed Voldemort, and the few weeks afterward are very fuzzy, though Ron has told him he acted completely normal; Draco has told him that he that acted like a complete crackpot, but that he supposed it was normal for Harry.
He doesn’t remember his first kiss with Charlie Weasley, but he vividly remembers their break-up, when Charlie called him cold and unstable, and he remembers swearing never to touch another Weasley again.
He doesn’t remember large portions of the time he spent held in captivity by Death Eaters, Lucius Malfoy chief among them; he knows only that something happened in those dungeons that changed his magic, turning it so huge and fluid that it seemed to exist only at the fringes of his control. He knows that these experiences are probably better left forgotten, but he also knows that he couldn’t have won the war without them; he thinks perhaps if he remembers he will find a better solution to his problem than trying really hard to remain calm.
