Sell My Soul by DoggyJ

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 19340 words

Why this must be read: - What will Blair do to help a friend? In this story he's a guide who's done some temporary guiding, doesn't want a permanent sentinel, but sells his services for seven years so that a child can get life-saving surgery.

It's a semi-sympathetic look at William Ellison, who is worried enough to buy Blair's services for Jim, and a strong Blair whose life experiences are far greater than anyone expects. There's a bitter-sweet feel to it - Blair knows there'll be no return for what he's done - but at the same time he knows how much he's valued.

Wow, that's a really good story. Thanks for recommending it, I hadn't read it before :-)

I've always loved this story but hadn't read it in a while. Thanks so much for reccing it! DJ used to write a fair amount for SA, but I don't know if she still does because I'm not a member there anymore. I've enjoyed everything she's written.

That was a very satisfying story, even though it's a bleak universe. I liked that it isn't just guides that are IS, but anyone with a skill worth buying. Very much like the way IS were in centuries past. I especially liked how Blair was accepted all around because they knew he was going to help Jim. And how he helped Jim even more than expected -- by challenging Jim's opinions of those around him.

I'd never read anything by Doggy J, so thanks also for introducing me to the author.
