Why this must be read:
I will say right off the bat that normally, I don't like first person. This fic, however, is written so beautifully that I can't imagine it working any other way. Angels or demons may not exist in this AU, but they do in Dean's mind and his schizophrenic hallucinations. And the thing is, even though he knows that Castiel and the demons that lurk in the shadows are products of his mind, that doesn't stop them from being painfully, vividly real. It's Dean job to keep Sammy safe, always has been and always will be, but the one thing that Dean can't protect Sam from is himself. This is a heartbreaking fic that just about broke me when I first read it.
