Why this must be read: Because it's an epic case!fic. It's well-crafted (and long) with interesting OCs (*cough*long), in-character voices (quite long), and an interesting and compelling mystery throughout. And it's 40k. There are times when you just need something novel-length to escape into for a time. Red Lanterns more than fits the bill.
After a savage assault on a Sheriff's Department in a small, Northern California town leaves several victims dead, one deputy in surgery, another with retrograde amnesia, and an eight-year-old girl missing, the CBI is called in to investigate. It's a race against time as the team works to uncover the motive for the attack and recover the injured deputy's memories, before the girl is lost forever.
